Meg Whitney is one of my favorite local yoga teachers. She's incredibly talented with a sparkly and up beat approach to life. She's deeply compassionate and wicked smart. She's makes me laugh every time I'm in her class and has made me roll my eyes (at her insane love of core work) more times than I can count. (Don't worry, there's no core work at this retreat.) As my yoga teacher, she was a consistent and loving voice during my lonely divorce-recovery years. Her beautiful open heart, fierce tenderness, and unconditional belief in me served as a torch for me to follow. She teaches yoga at SLO Yoga Center and Harmony House in Pismo and is the founder and teacher of a brilliant 200 hour yoga teacher training, Meganesha Yoga. I love this woman, and I know you will too.
Molly Hemler is a dear friend and soul sister. Her smile lights up every corner of a room. She's gracious, generous, and kind. Much of the work I do today was inspired through long conversations and brain-storming sessions with Molly. She has taught at several of my events and retreats and is an all-time student favorite. When she lived in SLO, she founded the yoga program for SLO-Op and was one of the original founder of Komplete Kombucha (now Whalebird Kombucha). She currently lives and teaches in Carbondale, CO and I feel lucky to be able to share her with my community. Her classes are soulful, uplifting and will open your heart.
I am brand new to this, can I still come?
No previous yoga, meditation or Yoga Nidra experience necessary. Please bring a yoga mat, journal and pen. This retreat is for every fitness level and body size, and will be customized to accommodate any injuries or illnesses. I'm going to repeat this because it's important: This is designed for EVERY HUMAN BODY. Yes, even yours.
How can restorative yoga help me?
Restorative Yoga is a powerful component of my healing work with my clients. It is one of the best technologies to help us learn how to connect to our bodies, to help us learn how to feel comfortable in our own skins. The truth is: we can't heal ourselves exclusively with our heads - we must include our bodies. We are living breathing human beings and for real healing and change to take place we must integrate our minds with our bodies. Restorative yoga will teach you how to listen to your body's wisdom - to physically, emotionally and spiritually heal yourself. This is a healing yoga practice to help you connect to your internal source of health to help yourself gain vitality and joy.
How can meditation help me?
For thousands of years, meditators have claimed many benefits for their practice. Our experience, suggests that regular mindfulness practice, through meditation, is an effective treatment for stress, worry, lack of focus, relationship problems, addictions and more. It leads to peace of mind and wellbeing, greater focus and creativity and better relationships.
How can Yoga Nidra help me?
Yoga Nidra is known as the Yoga of Sleep, or sleep with awareness. It is used as a tool to bring sleep under your control. It enables the practitioner to get the deepest amount of regeneration through techniques of complete body and mind relaxation. Yoga Nidra trains the mind to rest with awareness in states of total relaxation and meditation. The practice of Yoga Nidra is designed to alleviate insomnia and unhealthy sleeping patterns. It reduces anxiety and agitation by deeply calming the nervous system during both waking and sleeping states. It helps train concentration and focus through simple and straightforward meditation techniques that anyone can practice. During the practice we will cultivate techniques for consciously relaxing the body and mind while bringing about states of lucid awareness normally inaccessible to the conscious mind.
