Shelby Messenger

Yoga Teacher. Master Somatic Coach. EFT Practitioner.

Shelby is a devout yogi, a teacher, a writer, and an enthusiastic student of life who holds two RYT-200 certifications.  She studied Vinyasa Flow at Nosara Yoga Institute, and also a form of Restorative Yoga called Self-Awakening Yoga.  Shelby has studied extensively with Meadow DeVor, completing every training Meadow has offered in the past five years and received her second RYT-200 through Yoga Church Teacher Training.

After teaching elementary school for almost ten years, Shelby’s body was screaming out to her to make a change.  She was suffering from chronic neck pain, overwhelm and fatigue—she was coping through excessive drinking and daily fantasies of a different life and knew that a major life change was needed.  She quit her job, found Meadow DeVor’s group “The Rowdies” and began her journey extensively studying practices that integrate the mind, body, heart and soul.

As a result of her fascination with the body’s subtle energy system, Shelby studied and is trained in the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, also known as Tapping). She also studied through Kripalu, a world-renowned yoga institute, where she received a certification in Positive Psychology, the study of living a fulfilled, meaningful life.  Shelby has studied the work of Carolyn Myss and completed her in-depth course on Archetypal Energy. She studies herbalism and plant medicine, another holistic avenue to support the healing of both body and mind. Shelby is now taking her studies to the next level and is working towards obtaining her Ph.D. in Depth Psychology with a specialization in Somatic Studies.

While living the country life in the hills of rural Northern California with her husband and five children, Shelby currently teaches Restorative Yoga and Vinyasa Flow at Exhale Yoga in Garberville, California.  Wishing she had found yoga earlier in life, Shelby trained in two children’s yoga programs, GoGrounded and Cosmic Kids, and occasionally offers classes for children. She spends her days teaching, coaching, writing, and tending to her rigorous studies in Depth Psychology.
